Interdisciplinary Discussion of "Supercooperators: Altruism, Evolution, and Why We Need Each Other to Succeed" by M. Nowak and R. Highfield
Often evolution is only identified with competition, or even only with aggression. Martin Vowak and Roger Highfield, however, highlight cooperation as the key to evolution in their seminal book "Supercooperators". Starting with the famous prisoner's dilemma they discuss topics like reciprocity, reputation, and reward, explaining also how selfless behavior arises naturally from competition; how forgiveness, generosity, and kindness have a mathematical rationale. This seminar discusses game theory and its application as well as ethical questions going together with it.
