603803 Plurality of Childhood and Education of Variety: Approaches and Methods of Gender Reflective Pedagogy
summer semester 2016 | Last update: 14.09.2023 | Place course on memo listThe aim of the seminar is to work critically on current pedagogical approaches of gender reflective work, especially boys and girls work. Intersectional and queer approaches will be reflected. One question will be how complex these approaches can be integrated into the work gender reflective work. How is Gender Reflected Pedagogy with boys, girls and other genders needed to be further developed and what kinds of alternatives could be developed? One crucial question is if the category gender can still be the main reference point of a pedagogical approach or how far this could be limited.
Theoretical approaches will be presented and discussed regarding their relevance to pedagogical practice. Also intersectional research will be discussed. Another question will ask added value of complex theoretical approaches for the practical pedagogical work.
Hence, beside theoretical discussions pedagogical methods will be tested and reflected theoretically.
The second block of the seminar will should be prepared and conducted mainly by the students. Group work is welcomed but not necessary. You are invited to work in an experimental way and to try out methods and any kind of pedagogical tools.
Starting point of the seminar are current debates on gender reflective pedagogy. Public discourses as actual campaigns from conservative and far right initiatives against sexual and gender diversity pedagogy will be discussed critically.
Key steps of the history of boys and girls work will be presented as well as theoretical approaches like feminist gender research and theory, Queer Theory and the concept of intersectionality. Based on these approaches, gender reflective girls and boys work will be further developed. A crucial point will be the ambivalent relation of the acknowledgement of heterosexism on the one hand and the pedagogical need of de-dramatizing of gender as social category in everyday practices. Hence, in the seminar girls and boys work will be connected with queer and intersectional approaches.
The seminar aims also to reflect pedagogical methods and didactics. Therefore we will firstly work on knowledge (theory), secondly on our own attitude (reflection), and thirdly on methodology/didactic. Further, the working condition will be discussed also. The question here is: Which conditions are needed for good (gender reflective) pedagogy. Participants/students will have the opportunity to test parts of it.
During the first block of the seminar feminist research and Queer Theory as well as critical masculinity studies and intersectionality will be introduced (inputs). Also general lines in gender and anti-discrimination pedagogy will be outlined. Methods will be tested and reflected (pedagogical methods).
Methods and didactical knowledge will be tested by the students during the second block of the seminar. The preparation and realization of the methods can be conducted in group work. The participants are free to test methods, but you can also perform a traditional lecture. Group Work is welcomed but not obligated. Each work will be reflected in the group but also individual feed backs will be a common practice.
Active contribution to the seminar and its documentation or a written homework.
