603051 Principles of Inclusive Education
winter semester 2016/2017 | Last update: 22.12.2016 | Place course on memo listThe fundamental differences between special needs education and integrative/inclusive pedagogy should not only be understood but also comprehended in a scientific-argumentative way
This course will examine the development of theories on special education from the 18th and 19th century until today, within the context of social processes, professional and institutional interests. It will also cover the developmental stages of the systems designed to help and support disabled people, as well as the connected processes of inclusion and exclusion from a socio-scientific, human rights-oriented and pedagogic perspective. The course will further explain the terms, key points and theories of inclusive education and integrative pedagogy, as opposed to the concepts of medical and individualized pedagogy or special education. Building on this, the course will introduce cultures, structures and practices of inclusive education in the relevant fields of action (such as education, work, leisure etc.), which will then be discussed. The course also takes into account the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, reflecting on current developments in Austria as well as the living conditions of disabled people
