The students explore selected online applications and tools, and get an introduction to these tools from a didactical, technological, and user-oriented perspective. The students acquire knowledge on methods for the evaluation and selection of tools according to the intended educational contexts, and for the implementation of tools for the target group-specific and innovative design of teaching and learning at school.

Social media tools (e.g. wikis, blogs, social networks) will be tested, as well as the use learning management systems (e.g. OLAT, Moodle) or video conferencing applications. The tools will be evaluated according to diverse criteria (e.g. usability, target group, etc.). Pros and cons, and challenges and limitations, will be discussed and reflected from a didactical perspective; pragmatic teaching scenarios will be developed. The focus is on using the tools for collaborative learning, as well as on didactic approaches for supporting synchronous and asynchronous communication in this context (e.g. with scripts, usability design of learning activities, etc.) Future scenarios for teaching and learning with digital technologies will be discussed.

The course is offered as blended learning course, i.e. part of the learning activities will be implemented in a virtual learning environment or through the use of online applications. Attendance is compulsory in both, synchronous online phases and presence phases. In single person work and/or small groups, students will work on the different online tools and technologies and will mutually present these tools

Preparation of a (given) topic and presentation/introduction of the topic for fellow students; active participation in discussions; working on single and group activities during the course in presence and online phases.

Will be announced during the course. Includes English language publications.
