Prerequisite: MANG 3401 (Introduction to Management & Org. Behavior). Prerequisite for MANG 5446: MANG 3401 or MANG 4400. Students may receive graduate credit for only one of MANG 4446, MANG 5446 or MANG 6446. Primary attention of this course will be focused on the comparative study of the practice of management in selected countries under different environmental conditions. The economic, legal, political, social, and cultural differences and the effects of these differences upon business objectives, plans, organization, and operation will be examined.

This course embraces the major problems that confront managers who operate across international boundaries from a base in a single country or who maintain affiliates and subsidiaries in several national jurisdictions. Major emphasis is given to problems encountered while doing business across national boundaries.

The course focuses on an understanding of the concepts, processes, players, and institutions in the international business environment and on an understanding of the economic, legal, social, political and cultural environment of international business decision-making. Specifically, this course focuses on how managers can develop and implement effective business-level and corporate-level strategies through external (industry-level) and internal (firm level) analyses. It is an integrative course emphasizing a “general management” or total organizational perspective as opposed to a functional viewpoint (e.g., accounting, finance, or marketing).

Students will use case studies and other methods to: (1) build and enhance their understanding of the constraints faced by managers within a global business setting, and (2) develop their ability to analyze the decisions made by managers given these constraints.

Voraussetzung: Anwesenheit bei der Vorbesprechung am 31. Mai 2017 um 17:00 Uhr im Raum 4U102b

The University of New Orleans International Summer School program has a mandatory class attendance policy. All students are required to attend class for all morning classes and any required afternoon and/or weekend fields trips and lectures. No unexcused absences are allowed. However, LFU students who have to miss a UNO class due to LFU examinations in the first two weeks of our program, can receive one excused absence for this. Any further unexcused absences will result in an academic penalty. Each faculty member determines the penalty for missed classes. Most professors deduct a letter grade for each additional missed class day. For details, please refer to your course syllabi, which will be distributed on the first day of class. Mail: Center-New-Orleans@uibk.ac.at
