The aim of this course is to review and apply central linguistic concepts and theories.

Selected topics from phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, variety studies, applied linguistics and historical linguistics.

Oral presentations, group discussions, mini-workshops.

Regular attendance, active participation (discussions, mini-workshops), oral presentations, short assignments (selecting and reading relevant key texts, compiling a bibliography), final written exam.

Select bibliographies on the individual topics to be covered in this course will be provided during the semester.

BA 2015: positive completion of mandatory modules 5 and 6 and either 7 or 8
