Participants explore new ways to communicate science by practical experience. They learn to develop hands-on experiments that can be tried out by non-scientists and arouse their interest. The participants practise their skills in using laymen's terms to talk about complicated issues. These skills are crucial for every kind of convincing and effective science communication.
Interdisciplinary teams of participants develop hands-on science stations dealing with the brain and nervous system. These will be presented on the Brain Day 2017 for high school pupils.
Lecture and practical exercises
The course starts with an introduction into the theoretical basics of science communication which is actively trained. Students design an attractive hands-on science station that renders one aspect of brain research graspable and explains it in word, picture, text and/or video.
At the end of the course the hands-on science station is presented and assessed.
On March 9 we will have a preliminary meeting and we will fix the further course dates.
The successful praticipation of the students will be certified.
If there are non-German speakers in the course, it will be given in English.
The course is part of the FWF science communication project "Hands-on Brain Research links University with School Education".
