The healing art of antiquity between magic and science is the focal point of the course. Written sources from the Greek and Roman world (including examples from the Ancient Near East and Egypt) provide insights into medical knowledge and science, as well as into rituals and magical practices for healing. In addition, the perception of medical professionalists is addressed and gender-specific aspects are considered. Relevant literature will be announced at the beginning of the semester.
