The course introduces important concepts and models related to managing IT.  By the end of the course students will be able to:

• explain and evaluate important IT concepts and techniques, especially IT strategy, IT compliance, IT planning, IT risk, IT audit IT alignment and IT evaluation.
• develop and evaluate IT governance, IT compliance and IT risk management strategies.
• elicit and evaluate IT audit and assurance requirements and make informed recommendations.
• analyze complex business situations to identify and evaluate IT alternatives and make informed recommendations.

The objective of the IT-Governance course is to provide an in-depth coverage of IT governance topics from an integrative perspective of business, IT, compliance, risk and audit.

IT governance can be defined as the effective framework of leadership, organizational structures and processes that ensure that the organization’s IT sustains and extends the organization’s strategies and objectives. As organizations implement effective IT governance to ensure regulatory compliance and economic benefits, this course focuses on the strategic view of the IT function, its role in the organization as a whole and on the intersection with IT risk and IT compliance.

This course will be taught in a combined lecture (VO) and workshop style (PS) involving case studies and seminar papers.

Formative assessment will take place during each session when students will work on questions, case studies or seminar papers in groups or alone for class discussion. Formal grading of work and learning outcome will include level and quality of active participation, one exam, group work assignment and presentation.
