The aim of this course is to give advanced environmental science students an introduction into the concepts of data science. It will teach the ethics of open data, the concept and creation of metadata, and methods for efficient analysis of data. By the end of the course, students will know how to store and organise their own data and how to make it accessible and shareable and how to use online repositories. They will be able to analyse and visualize environmental data in R and create reproducible and shareable reports of their analysis. All course content will be backed up with practical examples from different environmental science disciplines.
