Students undertake assisted research of sources and test their source-critical skills. They present their results in different media formats.

Early modern Europe was characterised by a remarkable variety of political systems, which manifested itself, among others, in different strategies of representing authority. In this research lab the question of the programmatic legitimisation of state rule is reduced to the distinction between monarchy and republic: with a focus on the the examples of England/Great Britain, the Swiss Confederation and the United Netherlands. We will explore textual and visual sources of ideological propaganda and try to capture the results in critically commented collages, especially for the realm of political iconography.

Investigation of sources; analyses of texts and pictures; project and group work for exploring a topic of political propaganda and/or iconography

Development of contents and forms of representation for an aspect of the project; presentation (e.g. as a commented poster) in the research lab and possibly in public
