645201 SE Seminar for the Bachelor's Thesis
summer semester 2020 | Last update: 14.09.2023 | Place course on memo listWorking through and contextualising information (sources and/or research literature) following the scientific rules of the subject, competence in writing historic scholarly pieces (in formulating, justifying and defending arguments and presentation skills) from a selected topic of Austrian History.
The Ötztal is doubtlessly one of the most carefully researched valleys of Tyrol. Reasons for that can be found in the impressive historic ice lakes, in the spectacular landing of Auguste Piccard’s stratospheric Balloon in 1931; not to mention the man of the ice who was found in September 1991.
Tourism is considered to be one of the driving forces behind the significant changes in the Eastern Alps since the second half of 19th century. Since then every day’s live has been concerned. The life-style of its inhabitants changed as well as the landscape of the valley. However, the museums of Ötztal try to provide a critical resource of memory. They want to collect, to discuss and to ask questions, not only concerning the past. Together with the Ötztal-Museen the Seminar wants to cast a glance to the valley’s past, the changes and its consequences. There will be several indoor sessions for preparation followed by field-work on the object and a final presentation of the results.
