Students will be familiarized with main theoretical concepts of Gender Studies. They will be able to apply the theoretical knowledge on literary texts and films (not only in an Italian, French and Spanisch context).
The thematic focus during the semester will be drawn on 'Women and Madness'.

At the beginning you will be introduced to the basics of Gender Studies especially by reading and discussing important theoretical texts. Another theoretical focus lies on texts dealing with the relation between women an madness. During the following sessions we will apply the theoretical knowledge on literary texts and films.
The following questions can be important:

* What is the role of madness in constructing male/female stereotypes?
* To what extent madness can be seen as a means of excluding and stimatizing women?

* Can madness (for instance hysteria) can be seen as a strategy of 'female' resistance?

*To what extent madness can be able to deconstruct binary oppositions? (Male/Female, etc.)

Text readings, discussions, presentations, analyses of film clips and texts

Regular participation; oral presentation; written essai

A detailed bibliographie will be at your disposal at the beginning of the semester.

Non; but bascial theoretical knowledge (in Cultural Studies) required.
