VU Introduction to Foreign Language Teaching (2 Groups)

1.      Students recognize the cross-linguistic aspect of foreign language didactics based on selected topics (e.g., language acquisition, CEFR, curriculum, motivation, diversity).

2.      Students are able to reflect on their own experiences at school in a critical and theory-based manner taking into account current developments.

3.      Students recognize the value of current research in foreign language didactics for their future action-oriented foreign language teaching and develop an openness to incorporate these approaches into their work already during their studies.

The Common European Framework of Reference - CEFR; language acquisition theories; multilingualism; the skills in language teaching; curricula and syllabi; media; methods; motivation in language teaching; intercultural and global learning in the foreign language classroom; diversity and inclusion in the foreign language classroom;

Team teaching , lecture, pair and group work.

Written tasks, written and oral exam

to be announced in class

Successful completion of Compulsory Module 5 (Subject: English) or Compulsory Module 6 (Subject: French/Italian/Russian/Spanish) Bachelor's Programme Secondary School Teacher Training (General Education). A requirement for the admission is also the parallel registration for this course and for one of the language-specific workshops (both part of Compulsory Module 1 “Foundations in Modern Language Teaching and Learning”).

This course is part of Compulsory Module 1 (“Foundations in Modern Language Teaching and Learning”) Bachelor's Programme Secondary School Teacher Training (General Education) Subject: English, French, Italian, Russian and Spanish. The admission to the course follows the conditions of admission (for information please consult the IMoF website: https://www.uibk.ac.at/imof/studium/).

Please note that for all groups the oral exam takes place on the 27th of June 2022
