The course objective is to give extended knowledge of the advanced power semiconductor devices, failure modes, the device driving techniques and protection. After completing this course, the students will be able to autonomously:

§  Understand advanced Si & WBG Power Semiconductors,

§  Understand various failure modes of Power Semiconductors and Power Converters,

§  Design and select Power Device for given converter topology and specification, and

§  Analyze, design and test the gate driver and Power Semiconductor device.

Power Diodes, Integrated Gate Commuted Thyristors (IGCTs), Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs), Metal Oxide Silicon Field Effect Transistors (MOSFETs), Wide Band Gap (WBG) Power Devices, Silicon Carbide Power Semiconductors (SiC SBD & SiC MOSFET), GaN Transistors, Testing and Characterization, Power Devices Failure Modes, Gate Drivers, Protection & Fault Management.
