Curr. 2021 § 5 (1) 15: This module serves to gain in-depth knowledge in selected subject areas of sociology. The students specialize in one or more subject(s) and acquire in-depth knowledge in them. 

The course picks up two aspects of Japanese Society and Culture in a Globalized World.

1. Japanese Society and Culture is deeply influenced by globalization flows.

2. The items and examples in Japanese Society and Culture, especially culture that are 'traveling' globally around the world. Emphasis is on the three cleavages in the history of modern Japanese society and culture; before 1960's, from 60's to the ending part of 20th century, and after that till now.

These two aspects/directions of globalization are mutually connected.

Lectures, discussions and group work. For the aspect of society the course uses some video material in addition to literature, for the cultural aspect group work will be the main method on the items of Japanese subcultures, manga, anime, food, and so forth.
