Introduction to philosophical problems and questions in the context of programmatic writings; overview of the discipline named "philosophy" and its different areas; philosophizing together; acquisition of basic knowledge with regards to scientific work.

In consideration of selected problems (truth, reality, justice, responsibility etc.) and writings we will jointly discuss the question what philosophy is or, rather, what it could be.

Lecture units; readings; discussions.

The first examination date will take place at the end of the SL, i.e. on 25 June 2024 from 10:15-11:45 in 4DG14 SR. At least two further examination dates can be arranged by email request (andreas.oberprantacher@uibk.ac.at) until the end of the second semester following the SL, if required.

There will be a total of two questions on the methods of scientific work and two open reflection and comprehension questions on the texts read and discussed, each of which must be answered in writing. In terms of content, the entire topic of the SL is relevant to the examination, i.e. questions can be asked about all individual SL units.

The assessment criteria are the following: Structure, coherence and plausibility of argumentation; level of reflection; references and contexts; and linguistic correctness.
