Students have a fundamental understanding of the current dynamics of subjectivation processes in their dialectic between the psychological and social levels and can critically reflect on and categorise the genesis of mental disorders against this background.

The mediation of the psychological and the social is one of the challenging tasks that the educational sciences repeatedly encounter in various fields of research. Theories and concepts of psychoanalysis can make a major contribution here, insofar as they make it possible to illuminate the subjectivation processes located between society and the individual in their affective, psychosocial and unconscious dimensions. Against this background, the course deals with psychoanalytical-social-psychological attempts to understand the genesis of mental disorders in their interwovenness with society and culture. In this context, prominent psychoanalytical-social-psychological diagnoses of the times are first considered and the social characters postulated in each case are critically reflected upon. Subsequently, new conceptual developments in psychoanalytic research that deal with current forms of psychological processing of social transformations and crises will be familiarised with. These include works that interpret classical clinical illness concepts such as anxiety disorders, narcissism, depression and borderline against the background of current social ideals and imperatives.
