An independently developed problem of free choice should, if possible, be solved autonomously, as a joint project by no more than two participants or as an individual project and the result presented and debated at the end of the semester.

The content is chosen independently, but should be seen in relation to the content presented in the previous WP course. This does not mean that the topic has to be adapted to the framework of the seminars and lectures. In addition to classic academic topics (“exams and education in pre-modern China”, “Hong Kong after the state security laws came into force in 2020”, “Taiwanese manga and children’s literature” or similar), more unconventional tasks can also be formulated (e.g. “Whatsup and WeChat – attempt at an empirical, comparative inventory”, “East Asian tourism in Tyrol”, “China in German-language media 2024” or similar)

During the first two weeks of the semester, joint meetings take place at which the choice of topic is discussed. You will then be responsible for project work, whereby consultations with the lecturer can be arranged at any time. The last three meetings in the semester plan are reserved for the presentation and discussion of the project progress, and attendance is mandatory.
