848126 PJ Design Studio 2
summer semester 2025 | Last update: 06.03.2025 | Place course on memo listStudents are able to master simple design and planning tasks, which are the result of a constructive narrative. They are able to analyse a design task, to formulate an architectural programme, to create a spatial concept and to translate it into an architectural design of a high aesthetic level.
Group 01- A more than Human Mantra: Hybrid Futures for a Vanishing Frontier
As we rely heavily on our natural landscape for survival, damaging them so irrevocably seems counterintuitive. Especially when the well-being of our planet and those we share it with are inextricably linked with ours. Effectively maintaining, re-cultivating, and expanding areas of true wilderness requires a fundamental shift in how we value and interact with our environment. Boding the question: How can we begin to understand, protect, and restore the delicate balance of life in these environments and re-introduce them into our urban realms through architectural edifices whilst designing for an entangled, human and non-human future?
Through this lens, the studio will explore architecture as a sensory machine that evolves from the characteristics of the selected site. We will investigate how to gather, respond to, and communicate ecological and sensory data through technological apparatus and architectural solutions. Within a conceptual framework, students will reflect on the current context of wilderness and imagine spaces for the present or future scenarios. Embracing experimental and novel approaches to architectural form finding, construction and inhabitation. Developed by experimenting with digital software to establish an alternative architectural design mode that combines high and low-tech techniques to inform sensitive and adaptive concepts to re-imagine and reestablish wilderness through architecture.
Group 0 - Ceramic Dive(is)lands
Ceramic Dive(is)lands is a design studio that challenges the exploration of architecture as a living, evolving habitat. Through ceramic 3D printing, modular reef structures are designed to support marine biodiversity while shaping immersive architectural spaces. The studio explores how pockets, niches, and negative spaces can function as both ecological tools and architectural elements, balancing assimilation and rejection to promote natural growth while enhancing human experience.
At the heart of this course is the development of a novel ceramic module—a bioreceptive brick that pushes the boundaries of nature-inspired architecture. Leveraging advanced digital tools and fabrication techniques, customized, site-responsive components are prototyped, merging material innovation with biological complexity. Can architecture become an active agent in ecosystem regeneration? This studio invites the exploration of how ceramics can transform the built environment into a thriving, biodiverse landscape—one that extends beyond human occupation and into the depths of the ocean.
Course examination according to § 6, statute section on "study-law regulations".
Studio Colletti: Will be discussed in the first lesson.
Positive energy and Vibes! Studio Colletti: Sci-fi fans welcome.
The course will invest heavily on digital and computational design and digital fabrication as expressional methods for architectural visualization.
