  • Students have a basic knowledge of methods of critical media analysis, as well as a broad theoretical overview of best practices for media analysis.
  • Students can utilize key terms from film and television analysis (eg: genre, gaze, frame, lighting, editing, set design, sound design, mise-en-scène), visual art analysis (eg: light/shadow, foreground/background, perspective, composition, texture, tone), literary analysis (eg: narrative voice, descriptive language, character, plot), and new media studies (eg: hypertext, forms of interactivity).
  • Students can apply their knowledge of media analysis independently, by analyzing specific works as well as comparing and contrasting works across media.
