Sickness and health are omnipresent topics - whether in advertising that promises us the perfect products for a cold or in the gym – aids to keep the body healthy are everywhere. In early Greek times (approx. 800-500 BC), questions about the causes of disease and ways to ward them off were present as well.
Together, we will examine the written and material evidence from this period on how health and illness were dealt with, thereby gaining insight into bodily practices as well as social and gender structures.
Lecture, critical examination of specific sources, collective reading, and discussion
