  • Students can formally describe the quantized electromagnetic field and non-relativistic light–matter interaction, and analyze core models of quantum optics, including open quantum systems and master equations.
  • Students can apply theoretical concepts of atom and ion physics (trapping, cooling, atom optics, cavity QED) to model and interpret controlled light–matter systems.
  • Students can understand and mathematically formulate quantum-optical protocols in quantum metrology and quantum computation with atoms and photons.
