716006 VO Fundamentals of Human Geography 1: Tourism and (Im)Mobilities in the Context of Global and Local Perspectives
summer semester 2026 | Last update: 23.02.2026 | Place course on memo listUpon completing the Vorlesung, students will be able to understand and apply key theories and concepts in human geography related to tourism and (im)mobilities. They will be able to analyze and critically reflect on the interactions between global and local perspectives on tourism and mobility. Furthermore, they will acquire the ability to investigate complex geographic phenomena concerning sustainable development, transnational connections, and the impacts of (im)mobilities on social and ecological structures. Through critical engagement with case studies, students will develop a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities involved in shaping tourism and mobility practices in an increasingly globalized world.
The lecture provides theoretical and methodological foundations of human geography with a focus on tourism geography and (im)mobilities. Students analyze the interactions between global and local perspectives and examine the impacts of mobility flows on regional development, sustainable tourism, and social structures. Key topics include the study of supply and demand in the tourism sector, as well as the ecological, social, and economic impacts of tourism. Additionally, concepts of sustainable tourism are discussed to reflect on the challenges posed by globalized tourism and mobility practices. Case studies offer the opportunity to critically understand complex geographic phenomena.
