Students will have an overview of various literatures and concepts in human geography, can apply them to questions of socio-material flows and establish connections between them. This conceptual foundation enables them to explore relationships of power and materiality through a variety of approaches.
The course focusses on various socio-material flows and their enmeshment with society, politics, space and power.
The lecture draws on a variety of concepts and theoretical currents within human geography. Based on key literature, we will discuss both the concepts themselves as well as their specific connection to socio-materials flows. Key concepts will be (among others): Urban Political Ecology, New Materialism and metabolic perspectives.
Besides this foundational literature, the lecture will also use concrete examples of socio-material flows, how they are engaged with within current scholarship and which new perspectives can be gained from this focus.
Good command of English is required.
