Upon completing the excursion, students will be able to understand different regions of Thailand, particularly the capital city Bangkok, the Eastern Seaboard region, and Chiang Mai, in terms of their spatial structures, space-shaping processes, and interactions within the human-environment system. They will be able to analyze and reflect on the impacts of tourism, migration, and urban development on regional conditions. Additionally, they will acquire the ability to identify and assess ecological challenges and gender-specific aspects in regional geographical contexts. Students will be able to formulate specific geographic questions and assess regional characteristics in Thailand concerning socio-economic and ecological dynamics.
The excursion provides an overview of the regional manifestations of the human-environment system in Thailand, with a particular focus on Bangkok, the Eastern Seaboard region, and Chiang Mai. Key topics include the impacts of tourism, migration processes, the study of cities and urbanization, as well as gender-specific perspectives in regional geographical contexts. Another focus is on ecological challenges arising from industrial development, urban growth, and tourism. Through case studies and practical observations, students will analyze and critically reflect on the complex interactions between social, economic, and ecological processes in these regions of Thailand.
Self-explorations, group work, guided tours, and discussions with experts.
active participation, oral presentations, written assessments
The excursion is subsidized by the university with 360 EUR
