Students will be able to explain the mechanisms and future scenarios of climate change, identify EU-wide and Austrian climate targets, and identify their implementation in relevant regulations for the construction industry. They will be able to implement energy-efficient, cost-effective, and climate-resilient construction, select fossil-free energy supplies for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, and evaluate building materials and construction structures in terms of the circular economy.
Lecture: Climate crisis (facts/data/interrelationships); Sustainable Development Goals; international and national regulations; Whole Live Carbon (building materials, construction processes/construction procedures/logistics, operation, disposal/recycling); Life cycle assessment; climate resilience; economics (present value method, life cycle costing);
Exercises: Level(s) (EU framework of core indicators for assessing the sustainability of buildings); Energy services (efficiency, renewable energy); CRREM analysis (Carbon Risk Real Estate Monitor); PER method (Primary Energy Renewable)
