Students understand the integral connection between the building envelope and building technology as well as the constructive and architectural components of energy-efficient building. They apply their fundamental understanding of building energy balance to the planning and design of energy-efficient buildings. The focus is on people and their health, comfort and well-being.

Building on the precise analysis of the building's energy balance with all boundary conditions and parameters, buildings are planned in such a way that they can be constructed and operated for the respective location and use with the lowest possible energy consumption and costs. Both qualitative and quantitative methods are used. In addition to theoretical considerations and practical exercises, parts and components are shown in the lecture as illustrative material. Small experiments, e.g. on airtightness, illustrate the testing methods and quality assurance on the construction site.
