Elective Module 4: Cultural Studies II (2.5 ECTS-Credits, 2 h)
Prerequisites for registration: successful completion of Compulsory Module 16
Learning Outcome: In-depth study of cultural science and respective competences; acquisition of the skills for dealing with culture theories as well as culture-scientific methods by exemplary and result-oriented means for analysing and interpreting specific data; training of intercultural competences.

Elective Modules (15 ECTS-Credits)
Elective modules from the area of competence in Command of Language corresponding to 10 ECTS-Credits and from the area of competence in Cultural Studies corresponding to 5 ECTS-Credits must be passed, whereby elective modules 4 or 5 and 6 or 7 must be passed from the area of competence in Cultural Studies.

Minors (Complementary Subject Areas) für Bachelor's Programmes at the University of Innsbruck
Minor: Media, Language, Culture (30 ECTS-Credits)
Prerequisites for registration: (1) The Minor "Media, Language, Culture" covering 30 ECTS-Credits can be selected by regular degree students of bachelor¿s programmes at the University of Innsbruck if the respective curriculum provides for the opportunity to pass a Minor.
(2) The individual modules and courses of the Minor "Media, Language, Culture" can be studied providing the availability of places.
Learning Outcome: Graduates of the Minor "Media, Language, Culture" possess knowledge and competences in the field of theoretical, analytical and applied examination of media and media communication. They can present and discuss different approaches and methods of analysis from the field of linguistics and media studies as well as from the field of cultural and literary studies (e.g. film analysis, comparative media studies, gender studies) and can apply them to different questions. They have knowledge of media in different cultural areas and can critically discuss media systems, media design and media effects. Through knowledge of approaches from different disciplines, graduates are able to describe media and media products from different perspectives, to recognise connections and to apply their media-related competences also in interdisciplinary contexts.
Elective modules covering a total of 25 ECTS-Credits are to be passed.
- Students of the Bachelor's Programme in German Philology may not select elective module 1.
- Students of the Bachelor's Programme in French, Italian and Spanish may not select elective module 3.
- Students of the Bachelor's Secondary School Teacher Training in the subject of English may not select elective module 4a.
- Students of the Bachelor's Programme in Comparative Literature may not select elective modules 5 and 6.
- Students of the Bachelor's Programme in Slavonic Studies may not select elective module 7.
- Students of the Bachelor's Secondary School Teacher Training in the subject of Russian may not select elective module 7b.

Learning Outcome:
Elective module 4: Media and Culture in the Anglophone Countries (5 ECTS-Credits, 4 h)
Prerequisites for registration: none
Learning Outcome: Students will be able to present, explain and discuss basics from media studies, media history and media analysis in the cultural and media context of the respective English language area. They are able to describe and assess cultural structures, institutions and phenomena and apply them to the context of American Studies.
