The digital student ID card is issued automatically via the national ID card platform as soon as the re-enrolment for the current semester has been successfully completed. Technically, the new ID card is based on the eAusweise app, which enables secure access via ID Austria. A key advantage of this system is continuous updating: information such as the name, registration number and current study status is constantly synchronised with the university¿s databases. Students can use the ID card flexibly, either by simply checking the data on the display or via a secure QR code.
The digital ID is legally equivalent to the previous chip-based student ID card and is also recognised by external bodies. This includes, for example, use on public transport for the semester ticket or to obtain various student discounts. However, the digital version does not yet fully replace the physical card. The previous student ID card remains valid.
Should any discrepancies arise in the information displayed, responsibility depends on the type of data. In the event of errors regarding your student status, the university is the direct point of contact, as this data originates from our internal systems. Corrections to general personal details, such as your date of birth, must, however, be reported to the relevant district administrative authority. For technical support, the Federal Ministry offers FAQs.
