The goal of the course is for the students to be able to use the content of a paper (in whole or part) in their own organization of information, to take something from the material and then to be able to communicate it in a short presentation or in a written answer.

Topics may include some of the following: Foreign policy in political life Governance and global markets China in the global economy The last of the patriarchs - Ariel Sharon Suicide terrorism Failed states in a world of terror The crisis in Zimbabwe Bush and the world Clash of globalizations Understanding the Bush doctrine Soft power and American foreign policy Russia renewed? Constitutional courts and legislative-executive relations: The case of Ukraine

On this course students work with English language texts on current issues, where possible using authors from major universities. For some topics students will be asked to find addditional information, either in printed materials or by computer search.

Evaluation will be made on the basis of a final examination, the presentation and class participation.
