Organizations engage in three functions to create goods and services: Market (sell), Produce (operate) and Finance (account).  Students gain an understanding of complex organizations -- service and manufacturing, focusing on the Production (Operation) function.  They learn to apply theories to real-world applications and modern-day examples, like Hard Rock Cafe, Toyota and Amazon.

We will examine the history of Operations Management, how goods and services are produced, what is and how to manage quality, and look at supply chain and inventory management systems. This is an introductory Operations Management course and is open to Business and non-Business students. It is recommended that students have some prior exposure to basic equations and statistics.  Students will learn some analytical (quantitative) skills to apply in the decision-making process.

This course combines lectures, readings, class discussions, homework, and case studies.

Attendance is required. Final grade will be determined on the basis of preparation, class participation and two exams during the semester.  Exam questions and problems will be drawn from the assigned readings, PowerPoint slides, in-class assignments and discussions.
