Specific Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, students will:
- Demonstrate understanding of the corporate setting, corporate strategies and decision-making, financial assets and financial markets
- Be able to read and interpret information from financial statements
- Understand the principles of the time value of money and the risk return tradeoff
- Apply the basic principles of valuing assets and investments
This course is intended for students who wish to learn and analyze the concepts of modern financial management. We will cover a wide range of topics that form the fundamentals of finance. The course will begin with a discussion of the goals and organization of a corporation, then move on to the time value of money and the valuation of simple corporate securities such as stocks, bonds and preferred stocks and explore the relation between risk and expected return on financial assets. The course will conclude with a discussion of Net Present Value criterion for selecting investment opportunities.
