Students who have completed this course will have the skills necessary to discretize partial differential equations and select the appropriate numerical methods for different types of equations.

Hyperbolic differential equations, both for smooth and discontinuous solutions; finite difference methods; treatment of complex geometries in the context of elliptic and parabolic problems by means of finite elements; time integration (implicit methods, semi-implicit methods, exponential integrators, splitting methods); stability analysis of numerical methods (von Neumann stability); staggered grids for Maxwell's equations.
