Upon successful completion of the course, students know a basic understanding of the foundations of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on different domains. They understand the benefits and risks of AI and they are able to use it in a conscious and responsible way for their own tasks.

The course has two parts: foundations and interdisciplinary perspectives. In the first part, students will learn the basics of neural networks and language models and use AI tools to get hands-on experience. In the second part, they will go through various domains to understand the broad impact of generative AI on humanity. Experts from different domains will present and discuss AI from various perspectives. These domains cover psychology, economy, ethics, law, language mediation, education, and philosophy.

The course consists of lectures, hands-on exercises, and discussions. There may be reading material or writing assignments before or after a unit.

Course assessment is based on regular written and/or oral contributions by participants. Students will collect points from individual units from active participation, e.g. discussions, and small assignments, such as practical exercises, short reports or papers, or multiple-choice tests. Details will be announced for particular units. Students will be graded based on the points collected over the semester. More details will be presented in the first unit.

Will be made available on OLAT.

No previous knowledge of artificial intelligence or any of the domains included in the perspectives part is required for this course.

CONTACT PERSON: Joanna Chimiak-Opoka.

Advanced students in the Digital Science Minor will be given precedence.
