Familiarity with important debates in epistemology; the ability to discuss and write competently about them.

With the proliferation of digital media, we are experiencing an explosion in the amount of information available to us. Paradoxically, however, less and less of this information seems to count as knowledge. How does knowledge differ from mere apparent or illusory knowledge, and what is knowledge anyway? When is it reasonable or rational to believe something and when is it not? In an information environment contaminated by fake news, propaganda and conspiracy theories, and increasingly flooded by AI replication, can other people be a source of knowledge at all? We will explore these and other fundamental questions of epistemology.

Lectures, class discussion.

Oral exam.
