202100 Fundamental Questions in Epistemology: Advanced Level
summer semester 2015 | Last update: 09.03.2015 | Place course on memo listThe aim of this lecture is to convey a better understanding of some debates in epistemology and the ability to participate in them in a philosophically appropriate way.
We look at some influential epistemological positions in the history of philosophy and in the contemporary philosophical debate and assess them critically. We will deal with issues such as: What is the nature of knowledge? What are adequate grounds for beliefs? Can the Gettier-problem be solved? Why is knowledge more valuable than mere true belief? Is there only one epistemic goal? What does it mean to understand something?
