(1) Engage critically with contemporary literature on the rationality of religious beliefs/faith;
(2) develop and defend your own view on the issue.

We will discuss the rationality (or reasonableness) of religious beliefs and religious faith. We will grapple with objections to, as well as defenses of, their rationality. This will require coming to grips with various notions of rationality as well as of faith. Examples of questions we will discuss include: Does rationality have anything to do with arguments or reasons or rather with an all-encompassing form of life? What does it even mean to have religious faith? Is religious faith compatible with irrational religious beliefs? We will focus on literature from the contemporary debate. The goal of the course is not only to become conversant with the literature but also to deveop and defend our own view.
