The main aim of the course is to give the students an experience of theologizing in the context. By means of critical study of the content of various Indian contextual Christologies and of the methods employed therein, the students will be introduced into a process of Christological reflection in their own contexts. The Indian paradigms are taken merely as examples. Apart from a general introduction to the contextual nature of Christologies in general, the course will focus on five major paradigms in Indian contextual Christologies: Non-dualistic (Advaitic) paradigms, Devotion (Bhakti) paradigms, Christologies in the context of religious pluralism, Liberation-centered paradigms, and Subaltern (Dalit) paradigms. The meaning of the terms specific to Indian philosophy or spirituality will be explained during the lectures. Along with the Christological contributions of these theologians the focus will be on deciphering and critiquing their methodological and hermeneutical considerations and their theological presuppositions.
