Students will be able to understand the fundamental principles of international economic law and apply them to cases in the real world. Students will critically reflect on the underlying values of international economic law and discuss its increasingly fragile character in a world of poly-crises.

Everyday life is shaped by international goods, services and investments. For example, we receive food, high-technology such as microchips and digital media from third countries. What are the international rules that govern cross-border trade in goods and in services, in capital and in investment? And how are these rules increasingly challenged in a world of rising geopolitical conflicts and trade wars?

This lecture explores the fundamental principles of international economic law. The main focus of the lecture is on international trade law (especially WTO law). Furthermore, other areas of international economic law will be analysed in overview such as international investment law.
