This block course, conducted in English, will examine key issues of contemporary transatlantic relations. Through a series of 6 lectures and discussion students will ad-dress such topics as U.S. and European approaches to the campaign against terrorism; the Greater Middle East; the future of NATO and the EU’s search for a security role; transatlantic economic challenges; transatlantic efforts to stabilize southeastern Europe, frictions between unilateralism and multilateralism, and other topics. Students will be asked to read selected articles and essays in advance of each lecture, and to write a pa-per on a selected topic in consultation with the professor.
Students will be expected to do the readings, participate in course discussions, and prepare a written essay of approximately 15 pages on a topic selected in consultation with the professor.
A selection of relevant, topical essays and articles will be available in the Handapparat.
