1- Enable students to reflect critically on the economic dimension of environmental problems and their solutions. 2- Understand the role of institutions to modify economic incentives leading to environmental problems. Learning outcomes (competences) - Comprehend the relevance of economic incentives and resulting social dilemmas for the emergence of environmental problems. - Understand the socio-ecological approach to environmental problems with a particular focus on economic incentives. - Discuss the economic implications of relevant topics in the environmental policy agenda of different countries (developed and developing countries). - Identify economic motivations for the positions of different stakeholders in environmental conflicts. - Defend and justify articulated arguments regarding environmental problems and possible solutions making use of diverse economic methodologies.

Presentations: Presentations should follow an ordered structure, when possible with an exposition of motivation, main hypothesis/ideas, how they have been tackled and the results/conclusions. Debates: Debates might be more or less articulated in advance. Students will be graded according to their participation, previous preparation of arguments and proof of knowledge on the specific topic. Reading groups: Reading groups will be based in the discussion of readings students will have prepared in advance. Questions, comments and discussion: Active participation during the whole course will be positively considered.
