408022 PS Introduction to Empirical Social Research
winter semester 2024/2025 | Last update: 01.10.2024 | Place course on memo listCurr. 2021 § 5 (1) 3: Students acquire the ability to characterise the fundamentals of empirical studies. They can assign the most important qualitative and quantitative survey methods to the respective scientific-theoretical and methodological background and decide which research questions require which methods. They are able to critically evaluate existing empirical studies and independently carry out the first phases of a research process (formulation of a research question, data collection, method reflection) qualitatively and/or quantitatively or using method triangulation.
In this PS you can practise a selection of research methods covered by the lecture (VO). You learn how to implement crucial steps of a research process in a small team (formulate a research question, produce data, reflect your experience methodologically).
small research assignments (participant observation, analysis of a questionnaire, interview guide, interviewing, transcribing), deep reflection of your research experience in the classroom, research reports
written reports with results and reflections of all research assignments
research journal with reflections on all assignments
