Students will learn to apply methods of investigation for specific sociological research questions. In the introductory seminar (PS) “Applied Methods of Social Sciences” students will learn, in accordance with the lecture on the same topic, to apply different empirical methods. All phases of the research process will be exemplarily conducted: formulation of a research question and developing a research method, field research, analysis of data, and presentation of first results in a short report (Curriculum, §5).

This course introduces in qualitative and quantitative data and survey collection methods. Students work on a self chosen research question by elaborating and applying a qualitative interview, a group dicussion and quantitative questioning.

Elaboration of handling of a research question in team work and single work.

Report including the results and a reflection on the methods applied.
