This course introduces students to  fundamental methods and ideas  of abstract analysis and related mathematical areas employed in economic theory and econometric theory and prepares them to read literature in these areas and aquire further mathematical knowledge on their own.

The course starts with essentials from logic, set theory, and related foundational material. Further topics are number systems, real vector spaces, metric spaces, normed spaces, convex analysis, and fixed point theory. Applications to various fields of economics will be given to motivate the various topics.

The course doesn't follow any book closely. Much of the material will be covered in the following books: Körner, "A Companion to Analysis", Webster, "Convexity", Border, "Fixed Point Theorems with Applications to Economics and Game Theory". Throughout, pointers to further literature will be given.
