Introduction to management accounting with a specific emphasis on cost accounting. After attending the course the students shall have an overview over basic concepts, terms and tools of management and cost accounting; they shall be able to reflect on intended and unintended outcomes of as well as the influence of the organizational context on management accounting; they shall be aware of the role of professional judgment in choosing the appropriate methods of management and cost accounting.

Basic instruments of management and cost accounting: costing systems and cost classifications; costing for internal and external reporting; costing for short-term and long-term decisions; activity-based costing and activity-based management; budgeting and standard costing; behavioural and organizational issues in management and cost accounting.

Lecture and in-class discussion

Written exam 90 minutes comprising contents of the whole module (lecture and proseminars 433 421 or 433 422).

Prerequisites: Module RW 2: Internes Rechnungswesen (Introduction to cost accounting) and further four modules from the "Betriebswirtschaftlicher Kernbereich", § 6, 2.

Compulsory participation in introductory meeting.

Regular participation in the lecture is strongly recommended as some of the topics from the lecture which will be part of the final written exam are not dealt with in the PS.
