Leadership and change are topics that are both critical for the success of today’s organizations and at the same time complex issues to address. Qualitative research is considered to be adequate for studying complex, unstructured topics where a deep understanding is necessary. In this course we combine the two themes of leadership and change and explore the topic of leading a change effort with the help of qualitative research. We will conduct a research project where you will apply different qualitative research methods. An initial critical literature review frames the context for the research project. We will work on different research designs, discuss different approaches to data generation as well as different possibilities in analyzing data whereas the most important findings are presented in a research report.

At the core of the course is a broad introduction to change leadership, the role of qualitative research and the application of qualitative research to inform the change efforts. The course should help you develop insight about employing qualitative research for various organizational goals.
