Basic knowledge of the concepts, methods, issues and theories as well as their development and application areas of political ethics; formation of ethical problem awareness.

Overview of the concepts, methods and theories of political ethics with a focus on the ethics of human rights and the ethics of democracy. Topics covered in this lecture include: The axiological foundations of human rights; human rights conflicts; the relationship between human rights and democracy; fundamental democratic rights and democratic citizenship; liberalism and its opponents; discourse ethics and democratic culture of debate; ethics of freedom of expression; ethics of resistance and protest; (new) media and the democratic public sphere; politics as a profession; ethics of state punishment; "just" violence, war and international relations; global justice.
