Students have basic knowledge of fundamental educational and social science texts in general and educational theory texts in particular. They learn to pose questions to the texts, to understand and discuss them on the basis of these questions as well as to argue with them. They work with different types and genres of texts.

The seminar focuses on the connection between Bildung and democracy, so that Bildung is examined as an explicitly political concept.

If one looks at the history of Bildung from such a political perspective, the parallels between the discourse cycles of educational theory and political events immediately comes to mind. This inevitably leads to the question of what an idea of Bildung that corresponds to current social and political conditions should look like.

• active and regular participation

• Tasks to prepare for the seminar session

• kick-off speeches

• final short reflection and argumentation paper (approx. 10 pages)
