• to evaluate the potential of using short stories in the language class • to experiment with a variety of methodological procedures • to plan a coherent set of three lessons, using short stories

In which varied ways can short stories be used in the language classroom? Which methodological procedures work effectively with such short stories? This experiential course involves lesson planning for a week’s work in an Oberstufe class.

Three introductory workshop sessions. A series of lesson simulations, each led by a participant. Improving the lesson plans, after constructive feedback. Producing a poster illustrating the lesson plans, with the accompanying materials used.

The simulation, lessons plans and poster are each assessed. Dossier of improved work, with accompanying letter of critical self-reflection and self-assessment, is also part of the overall assessment.

In addition to Scrivener, Harmer, Roche, Weskamp and the CEFR, with Oberstufe syllabus, a working bibliography in the form of a book exhibition and a collection of articles will be offered.
